The Mifflin County Conservation District has been working with agriculture to conserve soil, water, and natural resources since its creation in 1956. While the District has grown in its programs, agricultural conservation programs are still a primary focus. The District provides technical assistance, promotes education, and seeks cost-share funding for conservation practices for the agricultural community of Mifflin County.
Current Programs with the Mifflin County Conservation District:
-Ag. Conservation Practices in the Upper Kishacoquillas Watershed: Open to livestock owners, crop farmers, and agricultural producers in the The Upper Kishacoquillas Watershed (Belleville to Allensville)
-Ag. Conservation Practices in the Hungry Run Watershed: Open to livestock owners, crop farmers, and agricultural producers in the Hungry Run Watershed which runs through Burnham and Vira
-Conservation Practices On Tea Creek: Open to individuals who want to install conservation practices and live in the Tea Creek Watershed
-Prescribed and Rotational Grazing System Implementation: Open to producers who want to implement a prescribed or rotational grazing system and live in Mifflin County.

Western Pennsylvania Conservancy: The WPC has partnered with the Conservation District and currently has cost-share money available to install stream related conservation practices in the Kishacoquillas Creek Watershed. These practices include: Streambank Fencing, stabilized stream crossings, off-stream watering systems, streambank stabilization, and riparian buffer plantings.
